My name is Stephania Lopez. I am a recent graduate of Mercer University where I received my B.A. in English and history. I am pursuing a career in the editorial sector of the publishing industry.
As I completed my undergraduate degree, my literature courses frequently occurred within adaptation studies. My work thus emphasized a bridge between page and screen. I hope to use my love of books and reading to send more writing out into the world.
In my historical research, I have delved into studying 20th-century Mexican-American life. As a child of Mexican immigrants, this topic is important to my understanding of my own family. Through my research, I hope to use the past to better navigate the current polarized climate surrounding Mexican immigrants and Mexican-Americans.
I've done some freelance editing work in nonfiction! Learn more on my Freelance Editor page.
I was the Copyeditor of The Mercer Cluster, Mercer University's student-run newspaper. Read articles and learn more about the newspaper on The Cluster's website.
I was also a general staff member on the literary committee of The Dulcimer. As a staff member, I supported Mercer University's literary and arts magazine, selected written pieces for publication, and designed layouts. View previous magazines, submit pieces for publication, and join the staff on The Dulcimer's website.
Additionally, I was a Writing Fellow for Mercer's new Writers' Hub. I offered drop-in tutorials and information sessions on writing elements while helping the Writing Department reshape how writing is taught at Mercer. You can find resources on my Writing Fellow page and the Mercer Writers' Hub website.
Previously I worked as an editorial intern at Mercer University Press where I proofread and copyedited manuscripts. While at MUPress, I worked with titles in genres such as true crime, fiction, nonfiction, literary criticism, and poetry.
I served as a writing preceptor in the Mercer Great Books Program for two semesters. As a preceptor, I collaborated with instructors in first-year writing courses, assisted students with their writing, and conveyed writing instruction material. You can learn more about precepting, the Great Books Program, and my resources under my Precepting tab.
